About 14.1% of US residents were born in another country. In Hialeah, Florida, the foreign born figure is 74.5%, the highest of any US city with at least 50,000 residents. Seven of the twelve most foreign-born cities in the country are in Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade
Hialeah is a city of 226,165 people northwest of downtown Miami, and three of every four residents were born abroad, overwhelmingly in Cuba. It is the largest city in the country with the foreign born number above 70% and has held the top position for decades. Fountainebleau, Kendale Lakes, Westchester, Country Club, and The Hammocks are unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade that the census tracks as separate places. Doral, west of the airport, is 70.3% foreign-born and has the largest Venezuelan community in the country.
The city of Miami itself is 57.7%, and at 459,745 people is the largest city on the list by a wide margin. Taken together, the Miami-Dade places on this list hold about 1 million people, of whom roughly two-thirds were born outside the United States.
New Jersey and California
West New York sits on the Hudson River across from Manhattan and is 60.2% foreign-born, historically Cuban and now drawing from across Latin America. It is the only city outside Florida and California in the top twelve.
The three California cities have a different profile. Rosemead, in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles, is 59.2% foreign-born with a population that is largely Chinese and Vietnamese. Milpitas and Cupertino, in Santa Clara County, are 55.4% and 55.0%, drawing primarily from India, China, and Taiwan for technology employment. Cupertino also appears near the top of the graduate-degree and lowest-divorce lists, which reflects the same population.
The foreign-born share of the whole country reached 14.8% in the 2024 one-year estimates, the highest since 1890, a history covered in the foreign-born population over 250 years.
